What is ECFE?

Early Childhood Family Education (ECFE) is a public school program for all Minnesota families with children between the ages of birth and kindergarten. The program recognizes that families provide children’s first and most important learning environments and parents are children’s first and most important teachers. The mission of ECFE is to strengthen families through the education and support of all parents to provide the best possible environment for the healthy growth and development of their children. All ECFE programs include parent education, early childhood education, and parent-child interaction.

ECFE Classes Offered: 

Mixed Ages (12 months-Kindergarten)

ECFE includes parent-child time, parent education time, and early childhood education time. 

When: Fridays, Sep 13, 20, 27, Oct 11, 25, Nov 1

Time: 10:30-12p

Where:  Barnum Elementary School ECFE Room

 

 Friends, Family Neighbors Education (12 months-Kindergarten)

FFN will have a play and learn time, adult group time to socialize and learn new activities, snack, etc. to do with the children you are watching. 

When: Fridays, Sep 13, 20, 27, Oct 11, 25, Nov 1

Time: 8:30-10a

Where:  Barnum Elementary School ECFE Room

 

New Parent & Baby Class (Babies birth-12 months & Expecting parents)

A place where parents of new babies and expecting parents can come to socialize, share ideas, and seek advice about parenting in a safe and open-minded environment.

When: Fridays, Nov 15, 22, Dec 13, 20

Time: 10:30-12p

Where:  Barnum Elementary School ECFE Room

 

Early Childhood Advisory Board

Our Early Childhood Advisory Board provides input and guidance to our programs, helps organize fundraisers and events, and sets goals for our programs. Childcare and a light dinner provided!

Next Meeting Dates: Mon, Oct 7, Feb 3, Apr 6 from 5:30-6:30pm

 

Family Nights

Mark your calendars and watch for flyers! Inviting all early childhood families in the area to join us for fun family night events like movie nights, game nights, open gym, and a messy night!

Cost:  ranges from $2-5

Date: 2nd Wed of every month: Sep 11, Oct 9, Nov 13, Dec 11

Time: 5:30-7:00p

 

 

School Readiness Classes: 

  • Begindergarten and Leaps and Bounds classes start September 4th.
  • BeginderSteps class starts September 9th.
  • Little Steps class starts September 10th.
  • Cost for all programs based on a sliding fee scale. Pathway I & II Scholarship applications available upon request.

Begindersteps

When: M/W 8:15-11:15

Age: anyone 3 by 12/31/19

Where: ECFE room

Max: 10 students

Description: Through play settings, children will learn to share, socialize with others, and become independent in a school setting.

 

Little Steps

When: T/Th 8:15-11:15

Age: anyone 3 by 8/31/19

Where: ECFE room

Max: 12 students

Description: Through play and large group settings, children will learn to share, socialize with others, and become independent in a school setting.

 

Leaps & Bounds

When: M/W/Th 12:00-3:00

Age: anyone 4 by 12/31/19

Where: ECFE room or room 110

Max: 13 students

Description: Through play, large group, and small group settings, children will continue to share, socialize with others, be independent and work on pre-math and pre-reading skills.

 

Begindergarten 

When: M-Th 8:15-11:15

Age: anyone 5 by 12/31/19

Where: Room 110

Max: 15 Students

Description: Begindergarten is a class for those children who just missed the cutoff for kindergarten or for those kindergarten ages who are not developmentally ready for kindergarten. Through play, large and small group and independent work, children will become prepared for kindergarten by learning more of the pre-math and pre-reading skills, follow routines, build their social and emotional skills and have fun in a school setting.

Frog Class & Free Exploration at the Aquarium

Cost: $  10/child

           $  5/adult

*kids must be 3yrs old to ride the bus. 

*minimum of 20 attendees

 

 

Kindergarten Transition Night

Please join Kindergarten, Early Childhood teachers, and Little B’s for a fun and informative evening exploring large and fine motor activities that will help prepare your child for kindergarten. Childcare and supper will be provided. This event is for both parents and children who will be attending kindergarten in the fall of 2020.

Dates: Tuesday, February 11

Time: 5:30-7:00p                             

Location: Meet in the Barnum Elementary cafeteria

  • We will have our fall poinsettia fundraiser this year, watch for more information.
  • Transportation Night is coming back Wed, May 20th. A planning meeting will be held at the Feb 3 Advisory Mtg.
