Vision and Hearing Screening is done in the fall. Following the Minnesota Department of Health guidelines, hearing screening is done at the elementary school on students in Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grade. Vision screening is done on students in 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade. This is done with the help of several parent volunteers. Vision and Hearing screening is done on students in 7th and 10th grade at the high school. If a student does not pass the screening at the time of the initial screening, they are re-screened in 2 weeks. If he/she still does not pass at the time of the re-screen, a referral letter is sent to the parents recommending further assessment.
Scoliosis (abnormal curvature of the back) screening is done in the fall of 5th grade and again in the spring of 6th grade for girls only. This is following the guidelines set forth by the Minnesota Department of Health. A referral letter will be sent to parents of students whose measurement exceeds the guidelines set forth by MDH.
