Vision and Hearing Screening is done in the fall. Following the Minnesota Department of Health guidelines, hearing screening is done at the elementary school on students in Kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 5th grade. Vision screening is done on students in 1st, 3rd, and 5th grade. This is done with the help of several parent volunteers. Vision and Hearing screening is done on students in 7th and 10th grade at the high school. If a student does not pass the screening at the time of the initial screening, they are re-screened in 2 weeks. If he/she still does not pass at the time of the re-screen, a referral letter is sent to the parents recommending further assessment.
Scoliosis (abnormal curvature of the back) screening is no longer done in the school setting. It is recommended that this screening be done by your child’s primary care physician at his/her well-child visit.
