Barnum Elementary School is a public preK-6 school serving a student population of approximately 400. It is staffed by 56 Faculty and Staff committed to excellence in education through up-to-date teaching strategies, thorough curriculum review, and a collective behavior management program. The school’s curriculum and instruction is aligned with the Minnesota State Standards.
Barnum has 16 classroom teachers with 2-3 sections per grade. The school has a full-time principal, counselor, nurse, and media/technology specialist. It also provides specialists in music, physical education, ADSIS and Title One.
Special education services are provided for specific learning disabilities, speech/language therapy, emotional behavior disorders, occupational/physical therapy, mild/moderate/severe mental impairments, early childhood special education, and blindness. Other services are provided by the Cloquet Area Special Education Cooperative. The district also provides school-age daycare, and Early Childhood Family Education.
Parent Involvement:
Barnum Elementary School has an open environment that encourages parent involvement. There are parents volunteering in classrooms and other areas of the school. We are very proud of our volunteers and welcome others to join us. If you are interested in volunteering contact the elementary office. In addition, our PTO provides wonderful opportunities for our students throughout the year.
